The most underrated action star on this list, Rothrock has made more than 60 films since 1985, including No Retreat, No Surrender 2, Martial Law, the Tiger Claws trilogy, and two China O’Brien films with Robert Clouse, who also directed Bruce Lee. Her first film,1985’s Yes, Madam, co-starred another future female icon, Michelle Yeoh.

From the time she was 13, Rothrock dove deeply into martial arts, winning numerous competitions throughout the ’80s. She has mastered many disciplines in various forms of martial arts throughout her career, including five black belts in Eagle Claw, Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do, Wushu, and Northern Shaolin. After doing a karate-themed KFC commercial in 1983, she was approached by major Hong Kong production company Golden Harvest and soon turned into an Eastern star before making her way into American action films.

In Hong Kong, her film work was credited under 羅芙洛 (Fu Lok Law). She was very active onscreen in the ’90s, and since 2004, she has focused more on teaching at her studio in Studio City, CA, and raising her daughter Skylar. She ocassionally makes movies, including 2015’s The Martial Arts Kid with fellow legend Don “The Dragon” Wilson, and the Mortal Kombat video game character Sonya Blade was reportedly inspired by Rothrock.

Like Chuck Norris, she has aged very well, and like him, she seems invincible. She’s won innumerable awards throughout her career, and she is one of very few people to be inducted into both the Black Belt Hall of Fame and Kung-Fu Hall of Fame. Psychology Today recently profiled her, and she has been called “The Queen of Martial Arts” by the Martial Arts Museum and others. A documentary on her life is reportedly in the works.

Want huge, ripped arms? Toss aside those weights and get back to basics with a bodyweight-only workout—at least every once in a while.

Without all those heavy weights, you’ll give your body and joints a much-needed break. By altering your body angle and position and getting creative with the right tools at your gym, you can still get the necessary stimulus for real growth in your biceps, triceps, shoulders, and forearms.

Even if you’re a hardcore lifter, substitute your normal arm exercises with these bodyweight moves for the next few weeks and watch your biceps and triceps grow like weeds.

You’re welcome.

New York Pro 2020: Top Athletes Give Physique Updates Days Out

The 2020 IFBB New York Pro is going down this weekend. Ahead of the contest, top athletes Patrick Moore, Antoine Vaillant, and more are primed and looking ready to put on a show. Although the New York Pro is not going down in New York this year, there is still a ton of excitement around […]

The 2020 IFBB New York Pro is going down this weekend. Ahead of the contest, top athletes Patrick Moore, Antoine Vaillant, and more are primed and looking ready to put on a show.

Although the New York Pro is not going down in New York this year, there is still a ton of excitement around the event. The global pandemic forced the event south, to Tampa, Florida, but there is still going to be a big turnout of top tier talents taking the stage. This has made for an exciting buildup, as fans try to inspect the various physique updates from the athletes to determine who will walk away with the victory and invitation to the 2020 Mr. Olympia.

Considered to be one of the favorites for the New York Pro, Antoine Vaillant has been hard at work lately. He has been posting tons of updates to his Instagram, documenting his prep and return to competition. It would seem that he is going to be a tough one to beat, come Saturday.

If there is someone who is going to be a tough opponent for Antoine Vaillant, it is Patrick Moore. The Olympia vet has faced some criticisms for his size over the years. However he seems to have bulked up a bit in preparation for this show, and is set to bring a new package to the stage.

That being said, the New York Pro is far from a two man race. Former 212 Bodybuilder Dwayne Walker made the move to Open competition earlier this year, taking third at the Tampa Pro. Making a relatively quick turnaround, he is competing again in Florida, and looks ready to continue his momentum.

Aside from these three giants, another person of interest at the New York Pro is the 29-year old Canadian Iain Valliere. 2019 was a big year for Iain, and he has been hopeful to add to his already respectable resume. If successful here, this would be the first win in a major show for the young athlete.

There are a lot of young guns looking to be victorious at the New York Pro, but there are also some veterans looking to maintain the relevance in the sport. Maxx Charles will be 40 years old when he hits the stage this weekend. Yet nobody seemed to have told him that, because be seems to be in tremendous shape.

Maxx Charles isn’t the only crafty veteran trying to outshine Antoine Vaillant Iain Valliere and the other youngsters. At 50 years of age, Jon De La Rosa will be competing at his sixth New York Pro. If his training is any indication, he is not letting his advanced age deter him at all. Plus he wants to have a pool party after the event, and has invited everyone to attend.

There is a lot to like about the 2020 New York Pro. All of these guys have been grinding to prepare for this show, and this is not even half of those who will be attending. It is going to be a great contest, and it will be fascinating to see who wins. The event goes down this Saturday, September 5th, with prejudging beginning at 8am (ET). You can check the full list of Open competitors here.

Ivan Makarov Pulls 490 kg Deadlift In Preparation For World Record

Oh hell yeah! Soviet express is going strong and is showing no signs of stopping. We have cataloged Ivan’s journey to a 500kg deadlift and now his journey to the 502kg(maybe even 510kg) deadlift and the title of being the ultimate alpha male and the best deadlifter on the planet.

In his preparation for the Deadlift world championships, Ivan has been posting some training videos on his Instagram and if the videos are chronological(they happened around the same day or week they were posted on Instagram) Ivan is getting stronger by the day. About a month a go he was pulling 440kg for a double then he tried pulling 550kg of blocks but couldn’t quite get a lockout. Now he’s just 10 kg short of equalling Eddie Hall’s 500kg and 11kg of equalling the current deadlift record of 501 kg.

The weight looks like it’s giving him a fight, but being that close to the world record couple of weeks out of competition means he could easily have a new world record in him come competition day. Remember, Thor’s best filmed pre-world record lift was 470kg and he did 501 kg just a few weeks later. This should be really encouraging for Ivan as he enters the finals stages of his training sessions.

I contacted Ivan Makarov back in May and did an improv Instagram interview with him and he then told me that he was training for Giants Live’s deadlift championships which were to be held in September. However, due to all these crazy travel restrictions that are in place around the world, I am guessing this event should be postponed. Now again, I have no insider knowledge on this and I am just speculating. However, after doing some light digging I did find that Giants Live will be hosting an audience free Europe’s Strongest Man contest in September. The interesting thing for me is that the date of this year’s ESM is September 11th, while the original announcement for the Deadlift championships was for September 12th. Now, since ESM will be contested over a period of two days, it is entirely possible that the Deadlift will be contested somewhere during the second day. Regardless of that, Ivan is still training strong and is pulling near world record numbers in training. Giants Live is releasing the event schedule on their fb page one event at a time, so will find out soon if Ivan will get to try his hands on the mind-numbing 502kg world record.
