18. Make a rule that every time you work out, you’ll bring a water bottle and finish the whole thing.

Basically staying hydrated when you work out is a must so instead of sipping at the water fountain between sets or thinking of that post-run coffee as hydration (we’ve all done it), make a point of filling and then finishing a bottle of water every single time you exercise (or sip and down the rest after you’ve finished your session). It’s another way to associate an activity with getting your water in and since this particular activity really benefits from water, why not make it a rule? Of course, everyone’s needs around hydration are different and no one likes to feel sloshy when they exercise, but even just some sips before, during, and after your workout will mean a drained water bottle in no time.

19. Get some cool reusable straws.

If you use a straw, you will drink faster, which will mean you will drink more. Besides, who doesn’t want a nifty accessory to make their task a little more fun? But skip the disposable plastic straws which are flimsy and, of course, not good for the planet. Try some colorful twisty straws ($6) or some elegant, sleek-looking stainless steal ones ($25). There’s nothing like outsourcing effort when you can and when a straw is in the mix it’s almost difficult to not suck down an entire glass or bottle of water.

20. Drink a glass of water every time you’re waiting for coffee to brew.

Working in an office, I notice that a lot of people’s stand around time takes place when they’re in the kitchen waiting for their coffee to finish brewing. And the same goes for me when I’m at home. I’ve been known to stand there at the counter and just stare at the coffee pot, just waiting for that sweet, sweet brew to fill the carafe. Basically, I have enough time to stand there and stare but not enough time to do much of anything else. So, why not put another one of those little tricks into action and make a rule that any time you’re waiting for coffee, you finish a glass of water?

21. Make transitions in your day opportunities to chug water.

Look, we’re all already doing certain things everyday: getting out of bed, getting into bed, brushing our teeth, having breakfast, doing the dishes, going for a walk, etc. etc. Basically, if you tie each of these transitions to drinking water, before you know it you will have hit your goals. Getting up for a walk? Drink a glass of water. Going to lunch? Drink water. Leaving the house? Drink water. Coming home? Drink water. Going to get the mail? Sitting down to play video games? Walking over to get your book and then sit on the couch to read? Drink that water!

22. Reward yourself for hitting your goals.

There’s nothing like a reward, even a small one, for accomplishing something you set out to do. It just makes you want to keep hitting that goal! Make a rule that if you hit your goal every day for a week, you get yourself that fancy coffee beverage or spend even longer than usual binging on Netflix or scrolling through Instagram. Maybe after you’ve hit all your water goals for a month or two or six, you reward yourself with something even more significant. Sure, hydration and the health benefits of water are their own reward but we could all use a supplemental reward every once in a while!

You don’t need to follow a full-on Patrick Bateman-style grooming ritual every morning to look after your skin. Dabbing on a little moisturiser after you shower, maybe more often when the weather is cold or when you have dry patches, will do the job for most people.

Which moisturiser you use will depend on your skin type. People with very dry skin need a rich moisturiser, while those with oily skin should use a lighter product that won’t block their pores. If you have sensitive skin you’ll also want to avoid products that use any chemicals or fragrances that irritate – sadly, the only reliable way to discover this is through trial and error. If you’re lucky to have skin with no clear type, then just go nuts and pick the moisturiser that pleases you most, whether that’s down to the scent, texture or price.

We’ve tested a wide range of moisturisers and that extensive research has yielded both silky-smooth skin and the following selection of our absolute favourites.

Noble Isle Fireside Body Lotion

This is not just the best-smelling moisturiser on this list, it’s probably the best-smelling thing we’ve come across in our lives. Even better, the smell lingers on the skin after application, so you keep getting hints of that warming, spicy scent for hours. It’s the kind of scent that makes you pause when writing about it and go put more on, in fact. The lotion sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy feel on the face or body – and there’s also a fireside shower gel, if you want a double hit during your morning routine.

Buy from Feel Unique | £26 for 250ml

Bulldog Protective Moisturiser

Bulldog’s moisturisers do a great job of hitting the sweet spot between budget skincare options and luxury lotions, offering great quality for under £10. They’re often found in big supermarkets too for extra convenience. The Original Moisturiser has the best scent, but the Protective Moisturiser carries a delightful bergamot-heavy fragrance and it’s a very handy option for the summer, boasting an SPF 15 rating without feeling thick and sticky like standard suncream does.

Buy from Bulldog | £8 for 100ml

Manual Mr Moisturiser

The key ingredients in this light moisturiser are hyaluronic acid and allantoin. The former is one of nature’s most hydrating molecules, according to Manual (Mother Nature did not respond to our request for comment), and the latter soothes and regenerates skin. It’s a winning combo on paper and in practice too – Mr Moisturiser rubs in easily and smells fantastic, and it’s designed for use on your face, body and hands.

Buy from Manual | £14 for 100ml

Brisk For Men

This is a great everyday option for the budget-conscious. It’s priced very attractively in the first place, and it also has a pump dispenser that limits the chances of squirting too much on your hand so it’ll last longer. It hydrates so well that we found Brisk’s directions to apply twice a day overkill – once did the trick for us. It requires more rubbing in than other moisturisers we’ve tried, but it doesn’t leave an oily residue.

Buy from Morrisons | £3.50 for 50ml

Bulldog Sensitive

If you’re a man keen on avoiding any kind of scent with your moisturiser, either because you have sensitive skin or just hate the idea of your skin being slathered with something smelly, then this is a good bet. It’s odour-free, non-greasy and aims to hydrate sensitive skin without causing any irritation.

Bullet & Bone Protective Moisturising Spray

When the temperature falls, outdoor exercisers face an unpleasant choice: let your skin face the cold unprotected during your activities, or moisturise beforehand and risk excessive sweating due to the cream. This light moisturising spray provides a third way, offering protection from the elements without blocking pores or making your skin feel greasy. It has a subtle, refreshing scent and sinks in the second it hits your skin. While it might not be as richly moisturising as the other options on this list, it’s a great option for runners and cyclists venturing outside during winter.

Buy from Bullet & Bone | £13.99 for 100ml

Jack Black Extra Rich Body Hydrator

Despite the richness of this body lotion designed for dry skin, it’s absorbed quickly and doesn’t feel oily. We used it daily as an after-sun moisturiser on holiday and it never gave us a clammy feeling after application even in hot and humid conditions. Furthermore, the pleasant, slightly citrusy scent isn’t overpowering, so feel free to slather this all over your body when your skin’s feeling parched.

Buy from Mankind | £37.50 for 454ml

Malin + Goetz Rum Body Lotion

The dark rum fragrance of this lotion might lead you to think you’ll walk around smelling like you’ve had a heavy night out, but you’d be wrong. The scent is subtle and it’s one of our favourites of all the moisturisers we tried, which is saying something. The lotion rubs in easily and doesn’t feel greasy at all.

Buy from Space NK | £29 for 250ml

Nivea Men Creme

Nivea Men Creme is good value and available at all supermarkets, making it a great pick for those who want to keep things simple. It takes a little time to sink in, but has a refreshing scent and it’s designed to be used on both the body and face.

The Bluebeards Revenge Cooling Moisturiser

Rubbing in a cooling moisturiser like this one on a sunny day or after a sweaty workout is one of life’s great pleasures, and this refreshing lotion is also great to use after shaving. It’s absorbed by the skin quickly, leaving a pleasant tingle in its wake.

Green People No3 Cooling Moisturiser

We were unimpressed with this moisturiser when we first put it on because it’s not so great at sinking in. Be prepared for smeared, white skin for a little while after application. However, it’s very much worth it because the cooling menthol tingle on your skin is a treat, especially after exercise or a day in the sun.

Buy from Green People | £15 for 100ml

Natural Spa Factory Wild Lavender, Aloe And Comfrey Body Lotion

The fragrance sounds aggressively floral but in reality it’s very subtle, with a pleasant hint of lavender. The lotion itself is the most fluid we tried, which means it’s absorbed instantly, making it easy to apply to large patches of skin without excessive rubbing.

Buy from Natural Spa Factory | £15 for 250ml

Tropic Look Good Daily Moisturiser

A more divisive scent this, with a fiery ginger fragrance that only fades a little over time. We like ginger, however, so it’s two thumbs up from us, especially as the zingy smell is somewhat invigorating. Tropic has marked this down as a face moisturiser, hence the diminutive 50ml tube – you’ll go through it in a week if you use it on your body as well.

Buy from Tropic Skincare | £22 for 50ml

Anthony Pernice set the bar in the Silver Dollar deadlift last year when he pulled 1190lbs/540kg which was also an official record. Since then, Strongman Adam Bishop set an unofficial world record of 545kg/1200lbs which he did back in May.

But Pernice recently re-claimed the heaviest Silver Dollar deadlift on July 25th at the United States Strongman Farm Strong Record Breaker event, surpassing Bishop’s lift by 12.5 lbs. And, of course, it was an official record. He also bested his previous world record performance by 22.5 lbs w/ a Texas Power bar, he acknowledged in the post.

Now, for those unfamiliar with the Silver Dollar deadlift, it’s a deadlift where the bar is 18″ off the ground, twice the height of a standard deadlift setup. It’s also referred to as the partial deadlift. Therefore, you’re able to lift more weight although it’s not an easy lift by any means (he sure made it look easy though).

Here’s what he wrote in the post…

Silver Dollar Deadlift World Record
550 kilos / 1212.5 lbs
at @unitedstatesstrongman @topcropbarbellict Farm Strong Record Breaker. (Yes this is a Texas Power Bar btw.)

Check it out below…

Strongman and former World’s Strongest Man champion Eddie Hall held this record in 2017 when he pulled 536kg/1,181.7lbs which surpassed the then world record of 535kg/1,180lbs by Tom MacGee of Canada. Then, of course, Pernice broke Hall’s record with his 539.7kg/1,190lb lift in 2019.

So there’s definitely some interesting history regarding the Silver Dollar deadlift, and with Pernice having set this new record with relative ease, we expect to see this number eclipsed at some point in the near future.

But as of right now, Anthony Pernice is preparing for the 2020 Strongman Corporation Nationals set to take place October October 15-17th in Montgomery, Alabama.

One of the biggest shocks in the bodybuilding community recently was the death of Pro bodybuilder Luke Sandoe from the UK. He was a promising young competitor who placed third at last year’s Arnold Classic and was the Tampa Pro runner-up in the same year. And at only 31, his career had only just begun.

Shortly after his death, it was believed that Sandoe had committed suicide after having dealt with many demons for years. However, his family took to Instagram today on what would have been his 32nd birthday (8/3/2020), to share a message about his untimely passing while explaining that he died of heart failure and not suicide.

Apparently, the speculations and rumors of his death have cause Sandoe’s family a lot of necessary suffering, which was expressed in the post. But whoever shared the post decided that it was time they put the rumors and speculations to rest. As a family, we are finally able to give Luke our best and final gift. The truth. The cause of his death,” one part of the post read.

It was this next part that perhaps came as a shock to many especially seeing as what was believed to have been the cause of his death initially.

Please, we ask all of you to look after yourselves. This should be even more relevant with the knowledge that we lost Luke to heart failure, not suicide.”

Learning of this information about Luke Sandoe’s death will be a surprise to many. But either way, he is missed every day we’d like to, again, extend our most sincere condolences to his family and friends.
